Journalism Career Paths
Broadcast Journalism
This involves either TV or Radio. You will be able to become a reporter, a video/ audio editor, and even a voice-over artist. Be it under sports, business, politics, or human interest stories, once you know where your strength lies, you will be an exceptional broadcast journalist.
Public Relations
This is a role that requires you to create and maintain a favorable public image for the organization you represent. You will be tasked with coming up with press releases, formulating communication plans and strategies as well as organizing and coordinating events for an organization. You will also come up with solutions to be implemented during a PR crisis.
Advertising
Advertising challenges your creativity and since “digital” is the rage now, why not?
You will become a content creator. A content creator is a lot of things rolled up in one. Bloggers, vloggers, and content marketers are all content creators. Here, you will be tasked with creating videos, articles, and images that build a sense of community between a customer and the brand you are seeking to promote.
Print Media
.
In as much as going digital was( is?) potentially killing the print media, if you are a good writer, newspapers, and magazines are still being produced. You can become a copywriter as well. Although copy-writing leans towards advertising, heck, writing is writing. A copywriter is a person who develops the message behind the service/product that is to be advertised. If you are persuasive and creative, try venturing into copywriting.
